Teresa Burga
Teresa Burga
With her conceptual pieces, Teresa Burga is a pioneer of media art, technology-based art and installation in Peru. In the 1960s, Burga was part of the “Arte Nuevo” group. This group is credited with introducing new avant-garde trends in the Peruvian context, such as pop art, optical art and happenings. The recent revaluation of Burga’s work takes place in the context of the activities developed by a wide network of Latin American art theorists and artists who are currently engaged in a re-reading of the conceptualisms of the South (Red de Conceptualismos del Sur).
