Fátima Rodrigo
(Lima, 1987) Fátima Rodrigo’s work has evolved towards mixed media and interactive installations exploring the representation of Latin American modernism and gender identity through different devices such as architecture, modern art, and pop culture. She is particularly interested in problematizing the structures of power that in a post-colonial context continue to organize the world in hierarchical binaries, veiling the fluid relations between colonizers and colonized that compose what we understand as “modern.” Her work has focused on understanding how modernity—understood broadly as an aesthetic, a moment in history, and an aspiration that becomes embodied in landscapes and human bodies— not only coexists with but enables violence against vulnerable populations, including women and non-gender normative people. Her investigation raises questions regarding the ways in which these representations influence our desires and interactions based on repeated behaviors over time, shaping conventions that eventually become a sort of canon.

(Lima, 1987) lives and works in Lima, Peru.
She is currently in residence at Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris, France. Current exhibition “Imaginarios contemporáneos” at MALI (Museo de Arte de Lima). Upcoming exhibition: Museo Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid. Her work was part of the 22nd Biennale of Sydney. Her solo shows include: Museo de Arte de Lima (MALI); ICPNA Cultural, Lima; Glasgow International Festival; Garúa, Lima; Ricardo Palma Cultural Center, Lima; among others.
Her work has also been shown in numerous institutions around the world, most notably: OSTRALE OSTRALE Biennale, Dresden, Germany; 22nd Biennale of Sydney, Australia; Casado Santapau, Madrid; Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin; Fashion and Textile Museum, London; Museum of The City of Queretaro, Mexico; Matucana 100, Santiago; Memory and Reconciliation Center, Bogotá; Bienal Sur, Buenos Aires; Bienal Tropical, San Juan, Puerto Rico; Flux Factory, New York; Museum of Modern Art, Antwerp, among others.
Her work was recently acquired by the Museo de Arte de Lima (MALI).
