Darío Escobar joins the gallery program
We are pleased to welcome Darío Escobar to the gallery program.
Born in Guatemala in 1971, Escobar lives and works between Mexico City and Guatemala City. His practice is characterized by a formal and conceptual investigation of objects and their insertion into the field of visual arts and art history. Through the appropriation and transformation of everyday objects, Escobar challenges viewers to reconsider central dynamics of contemporary life: the gaze of the masses, the construction of identities shaped by consumption, and the tension between the popular and the cultivated. His work inhabits a territory of material culture that reflects on our place within the social, political, and economic systems that sustain our existence.
Over the past decades, his work has been presented internationally at major museums and institutions, including the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago; Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Museum of Fine Arts Boston; Museum of Fine Arts Houston; Fondation Centre Pompidou; Museo Jumex; Museo Nacional de Arte; Harvard Art Museums; The Morgan Library & Museum; Blanton Museum of Art; Detroit Institute of Arts; Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University; and the Phoenix Art Museum, among others.
We are honored to incorporate his work into our representation.
