XIMENA GARRIDO-LECCA’S “GERMINATIONS”

For a new exhibition at the Renaissance Society, Ximena Garrido-Lecca draws on her ongoing research into plants that were originally domesticated in the Andes thousands of years ago before spreading around the world. Her installation here—which brings a huge expanse of earth into the gallery—is inspired by Andean cosmology, the planting and harvesting of potatoes as ritual events, and different ways of observing space-time.
