Sandra Gamarra Heshiki presents “Construcción de los hechos” at MAC Lima

25.07.2026 - 04.10.2026

Sandra Gamarra Heshiki presents “Construcción de los hechos” at MAC Lima, curated by Augusto del Valle. The exhibition brings together more than four hundred years of Peruvian history, connecting the country’s present with its past through images, paintings, photographs, ceramics, and installation.

Gamarra draws on recent civic protests in Peru between 2022 and 2025, as well as historical references including the death of the Inca Atahualpa in 1532 and the costumbrista scenes of Pancho Fierro. Through these diverse sources, she explores the ways historical narratives are constructed, transforming the poetic into the historical and the visual into the political.

Working through archival research, quotation, and appropriation, Gamarra includes ceramic works created in collaboration with Rosalía Tineo and Darwin Límaco, imagineros from the southern Andes, alongside an installation and a clay-painted mural. Together, these elements form a memorial that traces the enduring tension between past and present.

The exhibition is on view through October 4.
