Antonis Donef (b. 1978, Athens, Greece) lives and works in Athens. He studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts (1999–2004) and at the University of Fine Arts, Madrid (2002–2003).
Donef’s practice centres on densely layered surfaces in which printed matter, drawing and color converge across different temporal planes. He approaches pages selected from encyclopaedias, atlases and various reference books not merely as backgrounds, but as living materials that carry the knowledge systems, memory and physical traces of the past. Through the artist’s interventions, printed words, drawn lines, fields of color and maps become intertwined, text moves beyond legibility, merging with image, rhythm and texture, so that looking and reading become simultaneous experiences.

In 2010, he received the Art House Shanghai Award and attended an art residency in Shanghai, and was shortlisted for the AUDI Award at Art Cologne.
