Maya Watanabe
(Lima, 1983) Maya Watanabe is a Peruvian audiovisual artist who works mainly with video installations. Her work has been shown in institutions such as the Palais de Tokyo, Paris; Matadero Madrid; Museo de Arte de Lima; Das Fidericiarium, Kassel; SESC and FIESP, São Paulo; Instituto Cervantes, Berlin; among others. She has also participated in video festivals such as Videobrasil, LOOP, FILE, TransitioMX, Madrid Abierto and the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema in Havana; as well as the Beijing Biennale. In parallel, she has collaborated with audiovisuals for plays presented in Peru, Spain, Austria and Italy. Watanabe currently lives between Madrid and Amsterdam.

Since 2005, she works primarily with video. Her work have been shown in institutions and museums in South and North America, Europe and Asia. She has participated in the Beijing Biennale 2009, Amsterdam Mediamatic Biennale 2009, and in festivals such as Videobrasil 2011-2013, LOOP 2011- 2012, FILE 2010-2011, TransitioMX 2009 and Madrid Abierto 2008.
She has been part of residence programs as at Kyoto Art Center (Kyoto), PIMA (Madrid) the Instituto Sacatar (Bahia), El Ranchito – Matadero (Madrid), and the Cité Internationale des Arts of Paris. Among other projects, she has collaborated with video projections for theater plays shown in: Teatro Real in Madrid, the Palais Kabelwerk in Viena and the Fonderie Limone at the Teatro Stabile in Torino.
She has been part of residence programs as at Kyoto Art Center (Kyoto), PIMA (Madrid) the Instituto Sacatar (Bahia), El Ranchito – Matadero (Madrid), and the Cité Internationale des Arts of Paris. Among other projects, she has collaborated with video projections for theater plays shown in: Teatro Real in Madrid, the Palais Kabelwerk in Viena and the Fonderie Limone at the Teatro Stabile in Torino.
